After serving the Clifton community for more than 60 years, Lenhardt’s Restaurant and Christy’s Biergarten closed their doors, marking the end of a long chapter in Cincinnati dining history. Following the closure, the restaurant’s furnishings, equipment, and memorabilia were offered to the public through an online auction conducted by Worley Auctioneers & Appraisers.
The auction allowed longtime patrons, collectors, and restaurant professionals to bid on items connected to the well-known Clifton establishment while helping transition the property toward its next phase.
A Clifton Landmark for Generations
For decades, Lenhardt’s Restaurant and Christy’s Biergarten were popular gathering places in the Clifton Heights neighborhood near the University of Cincinnati. The family-run restaurant welcomed generations of guests for meals, celebrations, and community events.
According to reporting from FOX19, the closure came after discussions about redevelopment of the site. Earlier in the year, Cincinnati City Council declined to grant the building landmark status, allowing the property to move forward toward redevelopment plans that could include student housing and retail space.
While the building’s future remained uncertain at the time, the auction offered the public a final opportunity to connect with the restaurant’s history.
More Than 800 Auction Lots Offered
The auction included more than 800 lots of restaurant assets and memorabilia gathered over decades of operation.
Items available to bidders included:
- Dining tables and restaurant furniture
- Chandeliers and decorative fixtures
- Bar equipment and custom wine storage
- Commercial kitchen equipment
- Historic menus and memorabilia
- Architectural features such as cast-iron gates
As FOX19 reported, the auction represented a comprehensive sale of the restaurant’s contents.
“This is a truly comprehensive auction,” said auctioneer Penny Worley. “Everything from the floor to the ceiling must sell.”
A public preview was held at the Clifton Heights location on West McMillan Avenue, allowing interested bidders to inspect items before participating in the online auction.
Celebrating a Restaurant’s Legacy
For the owners and the community, the auction represented more than a liquidation of assets—it served as an opportunity to celebrate the legacy of a restaurant that had been part of the neighborhood for generations.
Former customers, collectors, and restaurant professionals all had the chance to participate in the sale and take home pieces of Clifton dining history.
